Play!

After several weeks of building projects for Tinker I realised why people don’t take the time to document their work! Once you’ve done it, you want to move onto the next one! However, despite that, I managed to settle down and put together these 3 tutorials for beginners; a Wii Nunchuck hack, how to use a BlinkM and how to make a set of Electric Drums. This is just the start of the tutorials section and it would be great to hear any feedback so that we can continually improve it!

Beyond prototypes

People who attend our workshops often ask us “what’s next?”
Converting a few hacks and stuff plugged into a breadboard into an actual project is often up to the designer and the complexity of the setup often doesn’t matter if the idea and concept is good.

Mimi Son, student at the University of Middlesex attended our Beginners and Interactive Lighting workshop a few weeks ago and shared with us her final interactive project. After learning about DMX she built a color-sensitive cityscape.

Takeaway report

We had a great time last week at the Takeaway festival as we were invited to offer an RFID workshop. 35 people showed up from all walks of life and worked in teams on producing functional (and sometimes a bit glitchy) prototypes.

All fun though.

Have a look at some code for the Arduino and other documentation as well as some pics on Flickr!

Stuff and things

++ From the Arduino + Flash workshop we ran a few weeks back, this is Alias talking through some RFID goodness. Yes it does say Jesus is a robot at the beginning. Ask him not me. :)

++ Matt Biddulph showed off his hacking skills at last week’s GameCamp. Wish I could have been there.

++ How to build an electronic post-it in not the most simple way.

++ Sensei aka Integrating the Physical with the Digital World of the Network of the Future is an interesting EU funded project on pervasive and intelligent data gathering technology.

++ Speaking of which, this is what happens when you hook your house up to Twitter or when you publish your electricity consumption online.

Email problems at Tinker

Whilst it’s Bank holiday, our email infrastructure decided to go on vacation too : ( We will let you know when things are back in order!

This should not affect the store or your orders online. They will be dispatched tomorrow as planned, after Bank holiday.

Thanks!
